An unusual conflict in a bitter custody battle is serving as an example of how complex those types of disputes can be.
Two separate hearings had an Alberta judge grant a mother sole custody and a B.C. judge hand over sole custody to the father.
The pair, originally from Calgary, moved to B.C. in 2009, but when the marriage ended, the mother headed back to Calgary with the couple’s son.
The National Post reports, both courts have now decided a new custody trial should happen in B.C. where the couple’s son was born.
