Calgary dog has rabies

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is confirming a case of rabies in a young dog in Calgary.
The 5-month old pooch was a rescue dog from Nunavut. The territory is a know rabies zone in Canada.
A vet clinic in the Southwest first alerted the federal agency about the possible case after the dog was brought in earlier this month. Positive results came back a few days later.
We’re still waiting to learn what has been done with the animal.
Mike Dimambro with the CFIA office in Calgary says the pet owners have been informed and given the option of quarantining another dog living in the home. Alberta Health Services and the Chief Medical Health Officer have also been informed, and they will follow up with the people who have come in contact with the infected dog.
The best way to prevent rabies is to make sure your pets are vaccinated against it.
