Calgary Fire urging fire safety this long weekend

Calgarians are being urged to be extra careful with things like cigarettes and back yard fires this weekend.
Fire Information Officer, Carol Henke, says because of our recent hot weather most areas of the city are tinder dry.
Henke is also urging homeowners to cleanup their yards, which will reduce the fire risk where they live.
“Let’s really minimize the amount of garbage and litter and other objects that might be laying against our back fence or in the back alley. Let’s clean it up,” she says. “It makes it look nicer and it reduces the possibility of a fire starting there.”
Henke adds, people with questions about fire safety should check the fire department’s website.
