Albertans encouraged to reduce power this long weekend

The weather is hot, the wind is calm, and you might be trying to avoid the heat while staying at home this long weekend.
If so, Dawn Delaney from the Alberta Electric System Operator – or AESO – says the power provider is asking you do your best to conserve power however you can.
“There’s a couple things Albertans can do to try and conserve energy and one of those things is minimizing the use of air-conditioning, closing blinds, shades, and drapes during the hottest part of the day,” says Delaney,
“Also refraining from using some of those larger pieces of equipment such as dishwashers, washers, and dryers until preferably after 7:00p.m.”
Delaney says AESO has a big enough supply of power to meet demands should there be an increase in the use of power, but they’re hoping it won’t come to that if Albertans reduce their power consumption.
