Stamps take thrilling Labour Day Classic

The annual Labour Day classic attracts thousands to football stadiums across the country, and McMahon Stadium is no different.
Several tailgaters made the trip early to cheer on the Stamps to a nailbiting 37-34 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos. Many say the rivalry with the Eskimos is great, but who really irks them is the green team to the east. “The Eskimo rivalry is the old one, it’s the classic. It’s what you were brought up on. The Riders have gotten better lately and it’s brought the level up.” says one fan.
“Riders, but that’s not lately, it’s just ingrained.” says another fan clad in red. “At one point in my life I’d never thought I’d say this but it’s the Riders.” says another Stamps fan.
But watching football on an empty stomach is nothing to cheer about. “Pulled pork sandwiches, home-made coleslaw, barbecue sauce, all kinds of dips and chips.” says one tailgating expert.
Another says “We had some breakfast this morning, we had bacon and eggs, spolumbo sausages. We had a whole family gathering, which was kind of cool, and we’ll be making pasta for lunch.”
One gourmet griller says “We’re starting off with a little eggs benedict and then a little later on we’ll grill up some bacon wrapped chicken breast, and we’re doing some bacon guacamole cheddar burgers.”
They were there with family, friends and food. They brought their trash talk too. “Don’t get rid of Kavis Reed because you guys have started something there, but geez, good luck next year.” says one Stamp supporter.
The Stamps and Eskimos will match up again at Commonwealth Stadium Friday at 7 p.m.
