Truck stuck in the Bow River

Members of the Calgary Fire Department will be meeting with city officials this week to decide how to remove a truck floating in the Bow River.

Firefighters were doing routine boat patrols Sunday afternoon when they noticed the submerged vehicle just south of the Harvie Passage.

Battalion Chief Al Magwood says they then jumped into action.

“They dove on it to confirm there was nobody still in the vehicle and that there were no fluids leaking from it. Now it just becomes a recovery, and it’s possible they might end up bringing in a commercial dive team,” said Magwood.

Magwood says the vehicle does not pose a threat to the public or the environment, and it’s in a part of the river currently closed.

He says with the river dropping, new hazards are being exposed almost daily, and anyone rafting down the Bow should be on alert for hidden objects.
