Premier visits students in flood affected schools

As kids across the province return to school Tuesday students at Rideau Park Elementary were met by the Premier this morning.

Rideau was one of 80 schools affected by the flood back in June.

Flanked by Rideau’s Principal and Education Minister Jeff Johnston, Premier Redford says there’s reason to celebrate a return to class, at a school that was seriously flooded out just seven weeks ago.

Redford says the kids are at the school today, thanks to a lot of hard work to restore and provide a return to normalcy.

“The public servants and boards of education that have been partnering with Alberta Education, as well as school administrators and teachers and families working together to make sure today was a great day across the province and particularly in areas where schools were impacted by flooding,” says Redford.

Of the 80 southern Alberta schools affected by the flood just three remain closed, two in High River and Elbow Park School in Calgary, those students are traveling by bus to portables at Eugene Coste Elementary School.
