It was a Labour Day victory for striking employees at an Edmonton seniors facility.
Workers at supportive living centre, Waterford at Summerlea have ratified a three year collective agreement.
AUPE President Guy Smith tells 660News it’s been tough, especially with many registered nurses and homecare workers being laid off.
“It’s been traumatic for those workers, obviously, but the incredible and inspiring thing for us is that they stayed on the picket line with those other workers who will be returning back to the facility, and I think it was their strength and solidarity that won this struggle at the end of the day,” he says.
The new agreement will give them three per cent wage increases each year, along with improved sick leave provisions, and improvements to their health benefits.
