We’re a city that likes to party and it’s putting a strain on our wallets.
A report coming to city committee this week says the number of festivals in Calgary rose by 12 per cent last year, while the budget remained the same.
Around 975,000 people attended community events in 2012 resulting in $35.5-million in economic activity.
But The Calgary Sun reports our celebrations also left us with a $200,000 shortfall.
Officials say they’ll need some budgetary tweaking going forward, but are looking at the report as “inherently good for Calgarians.”
