Angle iron falls from high rise construction site

A dangerous situation, which could have ended a whole lot worse in downtown Calgary Wednesday.

Several pieces of construction material fell from a building on 8th St. and 5th Ave, around 3:40 in the afternoon.

Spokesperson Carol Henke tells 660News, “Fire crews got a call that some pieces of angle iron had fallen from a crane that was slinging these pieces at a construction site. The estimates are that the pieces of angle iron fell thirty-five storeys.”

The police department says luckily no one was walking or driving below when the load came crashing down.

Occupational Health and Safety is now investigating.
