YYC opening doors to the public

Fourteen sites around Calgary will soon be opening it’s doors to the public to give residents an up close and personal look at some exclusive landmarks.

It’s part of the City of Calgary’s ‘Doors Open YYC’, providing people with new opportunities to see our city upclose.

“We look for buildings where people walk by them on a regular basis and say you know it’d be really great to explore those spaces,” says Board Member Jeff Hessel.

Some of the 14 sites, opening up to the public, include the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant, Ralph Klein Park, Shepard Landfill and Reader Rock Gardens.

Those attending will also get the chance to ride a car through the C-Train wash at Oliver Bowen Maintenance Facility.

“That was very big last year,” says Hessel. “And kids just love going in there and being inside the train car while it’s being washed, we always see these great, clean C-Trains going around the city but we never really understand how they got that clean in the first place.”

Doors Open events have been held in other cities around the world.

The event takes place in Calgary from September 27th to the 29th.
