Union reacts to Herald outsourcing it’s newspaper printing

As part of it’s restructuring Calgary’s largest newspaper will soon outsource it’s printing services.
The move will eliminate dozens of jobs.
Larry Barber who is the President of Unifor 34-G tells 660News, several months ago they were told the paper was looking to outsource the work, but the announcement comes about a month after they signed a new 2 year contract.
Barber says because of the restructuring of the publishing industry in the new digital age, those impacted won’t have an easy time finding a job in their chosen profession.
He says the union will try and help it’s members find work , because one year severance packages can quickly disappear.
