Tentative deal struck on SW Ring Road project

A missing link in Calgary’s southwest Ring Road could be closer to becoming a reality.

Alberta Transportation Minister Ric McIver confirms to 660News, a tentative agreement has been tabled between the province and the Tsuu T’ina First Nation, the landowners where the proposed road would be built.

Tsuu T’ina members still need to hold a referendum vote set for October 24th.

Details haven’t been released on what a new draft agreement would look like.

An agreement voted down in 2009 would have seen the first nation sell 400 hectares of reserve land for about 275-million-dollars and a possible extra two-thousand hectares more.

The ring road’s southeast section could fully open by the beginning of October leaving only this disputed southwest portion to be realized.
