Neighbour rescues two from SE basement fire

algary fire crews are crediting a neighbour for rescuing two people in their fifties from a basement fire in the southeast.

Firefighters were called to the 700 block of Raynard Crescent southeast around 12:50 Friday afternoon.

Fire spokesperson, Carol Henke, says the fire was already out when they arrived thanks to the alert neighbour.

“He smelled smoke and went down into his neighbour’s basement and saw the fire and started extinguishing the fire and helped his neighbours out of their basement,” says Henke.

EMS say it was a minor fire, but the confined space made it more dangerous for the occupants and could have been much more serious.

One of the residents and the neighbour, both males in their 50’s were taken to hospital and treated for minor smoke inhalation.

A female in her 50’s was also treated on scene.
