Provincial ministers are trying to come up with an alternative to the federal government’s idea for a stock regulator.
A co-operative national regulator was proposed last week by Jim Flaherty, Canada’s Finance minister, and his counterparts in Ontario and B.C.
According to the Calgary Herald, Doug Horner, Alberta’s Finance Minister, said the agreement would have to change in a significant way for our province to agree to it.
Horner said it needs to be amended to reflect Alberta’s expertise in oil and gas.
He said provincial finance ministers are working on their own proposal for regulatory reform.
