It’s been a long road to recovery for residents of the town hardest hit by June’s flood.
High River is still slowly re-building, 100 days after the devastation that left the town, and homeowners picking up the pieces.
High River Mayor Emile Blokland tells 660News, he’s very proud have how far they’ve come since the June disaster.
“We realize there are still many residents that are still not at home or able to be at their homes, but on the other hand we have a lot more residents that have been able to return to their homes and begin the process of re-building,” he says.
Blokland adds, the sense of community in the town has become overwhelming.
A temporary business park has been opened with art galleries, restaurants and more finally getting a temporary space to operate in, while they reconstruct downtown.
The town is looking ahead now; High River will be in full celebration mode this weekend, as they celebrate the Canadian Hot Air Balloon Championships for the first time since 1982.
