Students are getting high marks in Calgary, despite many being unable to write their final tests because of June’s flood.
Both the public and Catholic school boards have released the results of diploma and provincial achievement exams.
Students that did write- outperformed the province in almost every subject.
There’s a lot of incomplete data — only 20 per cent of students ended up writing their final exams — with grade nines having to pass on the provincial achievement tests.
The results that did come, showed consistently high performance in English and French, with public students scoring high in math and; science and social studies good subjects for catholic kids
The CBE’s Cathy Faber says they are still pleased with the results, “while they missed this one particular exam, they still had strong results in other areas.”
The Catholic board will begin student learning assessments this year — to replace the provincial achievement tests in grade three.
The CBE will decide by December if they’ll do the same.
