Pressure mounts on Premier to come clean on severance payout

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says if it doesn’t soon get answers about how much Premier Redford’s former chief of staff was paid when he was let go, the matter could be headed to the courts.

Stephen Carter’s job was terminated more than a year ago, since then the CTF and an Alberta media outlet filed a freedom of information request wanting to know how much money he was given.

The request was denied.

Alberta’s Privacy and Information officer has since ordered the goverment to release details of the payout, but so far it has yet to comply.

Derek Filderbrandt with the CTF tells 660News the Premier’s office and Mr. Carter himself both claim the release of information would damaging.

Filderbrandt says taxpayers deserve to know and if answers are not provided and soon, the matter could end up in the courts, which would only cost taxpayers more cash.

He’s also calling for the standardization of severance packages for goverment employees.
