Shooting spree outside downtown bar

It’s Thanksgiving weekend, not Canada Day, but you’d never know it based on the fireworks outside a downtown bar early Sunday morning.

At about 2 a.m., police were called to a disturbance at an establishment in the 1100 block of 10th Avenue southwest.

Duty Inspector Steve Ellefson tells 660News, that’s when the patrons took it outside.

“Patrons at a licensed establishment there became embroiled in a disturbance inside,” says Ellefson.  “Once they left the establishment, a lone male produced a firearm and shot off a number of rounds, none of which struck anybody.”

“One person did suffer some collateral, minor injuries,” adds Ellefson, referring to a laceration believed to have been caused by a ricochet. “At this point in time, we’re investigating and looking for a suspect, but right now all we have is a black male” (as a suspect).

Ellefson says police will be look at video from the scene for clues as part of their investigation.

Meantime police are looking for a man after a stolen truck crashed into the United Church in  the 3000 block of Centre Street.

“The vehicle was left there” (at the church), notes Ellefson. “The offender fled, leaving his two passengers injured in the vehicle, minor injuries.”

At this point, police don’t know the relationship between the driver and passengers.

The incident happened around 10:45 Saturday night.  Police say damage to the church was minimal and confined to the stairwell of the church.
