‘We Day’ inspires Calgary youth

Thousands of kids packed the Scotiabank Saddledome Thursday to take part in Free the Children’s ‘We Day’.

More than 640 schools take part across the province in the annual event, with students earning a ticket through service.

Among the star guests Magic Johnson, Nelly Furtado and Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall.

He says once he got started with the organization he couldn’t stop, and many of these kids will carry the torch going forward.

“When you start getting involved in different things like that from a young age, it only makes it better for when you become an adult, you know what I’m saying? Like, you grow your whole life understanding the importance of doing better not just for yourself and your direct family but for the community of the globe on the whole,” Offishall says.

Down With Webster also performed in front of 16,000 screaming kids for the cause.

We Day has raised $37-million since its inception in 2007 for more than one thousand local and global causes.
