Puppy abuser gets 14 month sentence

An Edmonton man will spend 14 months behind bars for abusing a puppy until it was near death.
21-year-old Kristopher Barwell was convicted of torturing his border collie puppy, Zeus.
A neighbour testified she witnessed Barwell chase and punch the dog on several occasions in 2012.
The dog also went without food or water for long periods at a time.
When Zeus was taken from Barwell, he had bullets embedded in his his body, broken bones, and maggots around his head and neck.
Barwell will not be able to own a pet for 15 years.
Zeus has since been adopted by someone else, and re-named Kaden.
