It’s Science Fiction Night at the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory!
The evening is a tribute to the Sixties: The Golden Era of Science Fiction… with a presentation by George Melnyk from the U of C’s film studies.
Jennifer Howse with the Observatory says it’s just a chance to explore the fun side of astrophysics in our ever day life.
“That’s where all the really great science fiction comes out of, people wondering about something that they’ve heard about. Gene Rodenberry is an excellent example in how he developed Star Trek. its interesting how things have turned around because now we’re getting some of the tools that were imagined in Star Trek are a part of our everyday life,” says Howse.
She says people are also encouraged to dress up as their favourite sci-fi character!
There will be lae night observing through RAO telescopes if the night is clear enough.
The Observatory is located on the east side of Highway 22, 2.4 km south of the Hwy 22 and Hwy 22x interchange.
The event goes from 7:30 until 10:30 p.m.
