RCMP warn of overnight icing conditions

As Sunday’s melting snow turn icy overnight, Airdrie RCMP are reminding motorists that winter driving practices require extra caution.

Jason Graw, acting sheriff with the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit, tells 660News drivers should clear their vehicle of snow before taking to the roads, allow more travel time and leave enough space between vehicles.

Graw said this second taste of winter has kept members busy, responding to 22 collisions on Highway 2 over the weekend; two of those involved injuries with three people transported to hospital.

“We still need to remember that this is Alberta and conditions can change rapidly so if the temperature does drop tonight we could see icy sections still,” said Graw.

Meanwhile, on Calgary roads, police have responded to 171 non-injury collisions & 16 minor injury collisions from 6am Saturday to 9pm Sunday.

Highway 2 was among the most snow packed and icy roads over the weekend.
