Work continues on housing developments in High River

It’s another sign that flood-ravaged High River is starting to rebound, with work underway or nearly finished on hundreds of new housing developments.

According to town officials, the projects that are in the works could provide housing for more than 2,500 residents by the end of 2014.

The Town’s Director of Engineering Planning and Operational Services Albert Fluteman said the plan is to instill confidence in the future.

“The flood mitigation works are all about that, all about making people feel safe and comfortable and confident to be in their homes, that’s where we’re going with this,” he said.

Council is also looking at developing under the Spitzee Crossing Area Structure Plan, which means an additional 693 acres in the northwest.

To meet with the immediate needs, work on a new temporary neighborhood named Highwood Junction has already started.

There are 908 people already living in Saddlebrook and 79 in Great Plains in Calgary.
