More than 200 Calgary students are going head-to-head in a hands on test in engineering and teamwork Thursday as Skills Canada hosts its annual cardboard boat race on the SAIT campus.
Armed with nothing but cardboard, duct tape and each other, teams of four from local senior high schools and junior high schools are attempting to build a boat that’s fast enough to win a race across a pool, and strong enough to hold three people for at least one minute.
The event aims to teach students new skills, and strengthen leadership and teamwork traits that will, in the long run, help Alberta compete in an ever-changing global market.
