Trudeau talks minimum sentences during Twitter Q&A

The Federal leader of the Liberal Party says if he’s put in power, he’d re-examine minimum jail sentences in Canada.

Justin Trudeau had a Q&A session on Twitter Sunday, answering everything from his favourite movie, “probably Shawshank Redemption”, to more serious queries.

When asked whether he would “reconsider the slew of new mandatory minimum sentences rolled out by the conservatives”, Trudeau said yes.

He tweeted back: “I (and the Liberal party) trust the judiciary to do their jobs well, so yes.”

Trudeau also committed to replacing the first past the post system with a preferential ballot.
