The Calgary Drop-In Centre is fortunate there are so many generous people in this city.
Earlier this month, it put out a desperate call for warm winter clothing donations.
Jordan Hamilton, manager of external relations for the centre, says the response exceeded their expectations.
“People responded in droves. In six days we collected 6,000 winter coats. Last year we gave out 5,600 winter coat, and this year with the floods we are expecting higher demands but we are confident we can meet that demand,” said Hamilton.
With the cold weather, the centre is running at capacity.
When the temperature dips below -10, they have a policy not to turn anyone away.
