Wild weather calms but streets still slippery

Though the snow has ended, it’s still a slippery situation on the streets of Calgary.

There have been more than 150 crashes from Saturday morning to Sunday morning.

Luckily, police say no one has been seriously hurt.

The blast of winter wreaked havoc on the highways, causing dozens of crashes along with two major chain reaction collisions, including a 30-car pileup near Crossfield. Out of the dozens of crashes, the only life-threatening injury occurred in a four-vehicle crash near Acme, northeast of Calgary near Beiseker.

With the icy conditions and the blowing snow causing white-out conditions, it prompted Airdrie RCMP to advise drivers not to travel the QEII north to Red Deer.

Stranded drivers were taken to a Crossfield church to wait for the weather to blow over.

Although scattered snow flurries are expected throughout central and southern Alberta Sunday, there’s no serious wind in the forecast.

The AMA reports snow covered roads and icy sections with blowing snow in some areas in central Alberta.

It’s a much better situation to the south with some scattered flurries but fairly light wind compared to Saturday.
