Calgary store embraces the “ugly Christmas sweater”

Some have tinsel, some light up, but they are all wonderfully ugly; a store in Calgary is capitalizing on the holiday season by selling the most outrageous thrift store Christmas sweaters and accessories.

Co-owner of Holiday Rejects Apparel at Northland Mall, Adil Hooda, tells 660News, it’s a fun trend that appeals to people of all ages.

“I’m surprised these days that people have sweater parties in November. There are sweater parties going on this weekend, and people have them now. So, we are fairly busy right now, we’re selling them pretty quick,” he says.

Hooda says, most of their merchandise is found at thrift stores in the U.S.

“A lot of them are vintage. They’re lightly worn, of course, because they are Christmas sweaters, so they’re only really worn one month of the year if any,” he said.

In addition to another location in Edmonton, Holiday Rejects sells across Canada online.

The business will be featured on the Christmas special of Dragon’s Den on December 11th.
