Slave Lake honours Calgary Fire Department

Slave Lake has said thank you to Calgary.

Several members of the town, home of a devastating 2011 wildfire, were in the city Wednesday to present more than 200 members of the Calgary Fire Department with the Slave Lake Medal of Honour.

It’s for coming to the aid of the town during a time of need.

Calgary Fire Public Information Officer Carol Henke tells 660News it’s a familiar situation given the summer flooding here in southern Alberta.

“We found ourselves in a position when we needed additional help and we had people from all over Alberta come to Calgary and help out in June.  It just shows what kind of people live here in Alberta and how we reach out and help each other in a time of need,” says Henke

Among those at Wednesday’s ceremony were Slave Lake’s fire chief and former mayor.
