Parking authority cracks down on accessible parking

They’re clearly marked:  Don’t park in those handicapped stalls, or you could face a big fine.

Thursday is Accessible Parking Awareness Day.

The Calgary Parking Authority is asking drivers to show some holiday spirit, and ensure they don’t take up stalls meant for those with mobility issues.

“Leave that space for those who need them.  Even if it’s only for a few minutes it can really make a difference for someone, so that’s what we’re trying to remind everyone,” Manager Troy McLeod told 660News.

McLeod said last year, more than 7,000 tickets were handed out to violators, and so far this year, they’ve issued more than 5700.

The fines range from $200 if you pay within 10 days, to $300 after 30 days.
