It’s one of the most thankless jobs in the city: driving a plow or sander during a significant winter weather event like this blizzard.
Despite the best efforts of crews, traction did not improve much from the morning when the storm first rolled in, to the afternoon hours on Monday.
The city says conditions likely won’t improve much until the snow stops flying.
A pickle mixture of salt and gravel is being laid down on the priority one routes. However, not long after the plow and sander passes, snow is again covering the pavement which is being polished by tires and that howling wind.
City Roads spokesperson Carissa Vescio tells 660News they are throwing everything they’ve got at the storm and are asking for the patience of commuters.
Since the storm has brought more than five centimeteres of snow, a “snow route parking ban” could be in the offing but as of yet, people who live in those areas where signs have been posted don’t have to move their vehicles.
