A Calgary instructor is on his way to help with the recovery efforts after Typhoon Haiyan.
Nathan Lau, a nursing instructor at Bow Valley College, volunteered with Samaritan’s Purse back in December 2010. He was also sent to Haiti during the cholera outbreak to help administer IVs.
Six months later, he was trained as a medical officer for the charity’s Disaster Assistance Response Team for future events.
Lau explains to 660News on Thursday, what he’ll be doing in the Philippines.
“After the hurricane a lot of people had wounds from debris, so very likely I’ll be starting a lot of intravenous IV to give antibiotics; I’ll be doing a lot of wound care and other things that we’ll have to deal with is the spread of disease,” he says.
Lau adds the college has been very flexible and understanding about his volunteer efforts.
Bow Valley College says they’re very proud of the work Lau is doing, especially over the holiday season.
