The Manning Centre is set to release a report about the role of civic government in reducing poverty.
Mayor Nenshi has included the creation of a city-wide poverty reduction initiative as one of the primary planks of his campaign in 2010 and in 2012 he partnered with the United Way to launch the Calgary Poverty Reduction Initiative to help with that goal.
The centre’s report will go over how effective municipalities can be in reducing poverty and suggest policy alternatives to the program.
The report will also question if anti-poverty initiatives are a part of the city governments responsibilities.
