Most Albertans are now able to surf the web

The Redford Government is touting a victory on the communications front.

According to Manmeet Bhullar, Minister of Service Alberta, 98 per cent of Albertans now have access to high speed internet services.

Bhullar says it wasn’t an easy task, because so many homes are located in spread-out rural communities.

“We had to find some innovative solutions and work with municipalities and new technology to equip people with high-speed internet access”, said Bhullar.

Through the Final Mile Rural Connectivity initiative $5.1-million was provided to 23 projects to help build the infrastructure necessary.

Bhullar says the government will continue to explore ways to get high-speed access to the final 2 per cent too.
