Homeless man found dead near Calgary golf course

The body of a homeless man has been found in a tent near the Shaganappi Point golf course.

Police say they got the call just before 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

Foul play is not suspected, though he may have died of exposure.

It’s not known how long the body may have been there before the discovery.

An autopsy is expected Monday.

In the wake of the death, the Drop In Centre is making an appeal to all Calgarians to help the homeless get to a shelter.

Jordan Hamilton with the Calgary Drop In Centre says it’s doors are widely open to those in need, even if they are at capacity.

“I wish the person came in,” says Hamilton. “Had the person come in the shelter it would’ve meant we could connect that person to counseling support, to medical support, we could’ve changed this person’s life.”

Hamilton adds if you see a homeless person struggling, encourage them to go to a shelter or call the Drop In Centre or police for assistance.
