Joni Mitchell postpones world premiere ballet

The Joni Mitchell world premiere ballet set to debut in May of next year has been postponed.

According to a release by Alberta Ballet, Mitchell feels she cannot produce a song list that encompasses all that she needs to say about the theme of love in one ballet.

The release adds she’s never been known for compromising when it comes to her art and music and this is no exception and Alberta Ballet fully understands and respects her decision.

Alberta Ballet’s artistic director says they will honor this decision as they believe all artists should be given the freedom to make such decisions, especially artists of the calibre of Joni Mitchell.

Entitled Class Acts – A Tribute to Hollywood Musicals, it will pay tribute to the magical era of Hollywood musicals from the 1930’s and 1940’s featuring music from Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.
