Deep freeze across eastern Canada

It might have been cold in Calgary Wednesday morning but, it could have been worse.

A deep-freeze continues to linger over much of the country, where the plummeting mercury could set new record lows.

Long-johns, space heaters, you name it; much of the country will be ringing in the New Year thinking of new ways to keep warm.

Cold arctic-like air has led Environment Canada to issue wind chill warnings from Manitoba to Labrador.

Angela “Big Nickel” Gemmill is with our sister station Kiss 105.3 in Sudbury.

“I’m buying a brand new pair of boots today because I found out mine are not warm enough. Perhaps in about 9 months we’ll have a baby boom? Who knows,” Gemmill said.

Extreme cold in Winnipeg has also led that city to cancel flights.

The frigid temperatures for much of eastern Canada are expected to last through the week.
