An 81-year-old man is in hospital, after driving into the path of a C-Train near the Marlborough station.
Just before 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, he drove his van onto the track on 36th St. and 12th Ave. N.E. and was hit by the train.
Sgt. Joreg Gottschling said the driver will likely be on the hook for causing the crash.
“He’s probably going to be receiving a summons for driving around a mechanical arm and he’s probably going to be on the hook through insurance anyway for making some repairs,” he said. “The engineer indicated it upwards to $15,000.”
Thankfully, the man’s injuries are believed to be minor, even though he had to be extricated by the Calgary Fire Dept.
Shuttles have been set up to take riders past the incident.
This comes after a month of December which saw a handful of C-Train vs. vehicle collisions, mostly in the downtown core, which prompted police and city council urging motorists to watch how they drive.
