The town of Banff was blanketed in red and white with plenty of excited feedback from the crowd before and after the send-off block party in the Rockies on Saturday.
Banff Avenue was closed to handle the thousands of onlookers who came out to wish our athletes well, in advance of Sochi.
One group of Australian fans were pumped to consider themselves honourary Canadians for the day.
One woman had this to say, “Go Canada! Canucks! That’s all I know!”
Volunteer Jamie, said she had well-wishers sign a flag that will be displayed in Olympic Village in Sochi; written on it were plenty of comments like “go for gold” and “we’re behind you!”
“As soon as people find out this is the flag that’s going to be hung in Canada Olympic House, they are so excited to sign it, they can’t wait,” she tells 660News.
Signatures on the flag came as far away as Poland and New Zealand.
Boys and girls from Banff Public School also wandered the crowd handing out Canadian flags to fans.
Ossi and Hunter tell 660News, they certainly won’t forget a few things like the music and the excitement.
Meanwhile, Alexandra and Yovanna had a special message for our athletes, “Good luck and go Canada go!”
Paul and Bev Meyers were in town from Drumheller.
The couple wanted to get away for the weekend and happened to stumble on the block party by chance.
The duo said they were enjoying the bands and supporting “the troops” as they go off to represent us overseas.
