The Calgary motorcycle show is revving up again.
It’s back at the BMO Centre for its 13th year and it is expected to draw a crowd of about 33,000 men, women and children over the weekend.
There are new bikes on display, and some even available to be driven.
“Yamaha Riding Academy is here where kids 6-12 can learn to ride,” Show Manager Laurie Paetz said. “And we also have what we call Action Attraction.”
That would be a stunt show where the best motocross bikers in North America – including Nick “Apex” Brocha and Ernie “Edub” Vigil – perform stunts and tricks for those in attendance.
Many show-goers like Geoff West said it’s a great way to spend the day.
“Great bikes to see,” West said. “I didn’t get to see the show because my son was too scared of the noise, but other than that it’s fantastic.”
Along with all the fun is a fundraising effort.
Chairman of Alberta Ride for Sight, Ken Geitz, has a booth at the show and said the organization raises money for vision research through events like show and shines and charity rides.
“Our individual riders, who go either online or door to door for the day’s events, those go directly to the research grants,” he said.
The Motorcycle Show runs until 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
