Alberta boosts trade to India

Just days after leading a trade mission to India, Alberta’s Premier announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with one state, which should help boost trade between our province and that region.
Pork producers are the big winners following the signing the memorandum of understanding between Alberta and the state of Meghalaya.
Alberta Agriculture Minister Verlyn Olson tells 660News once the deal is finalized, they will be shipping more than pork products there.
“They don’t produce enough pork themselves and so they are looking to acquire products from us but, also they’re interested in developing their own industry and therefore they’re interested in the genetics and ultimately they would probably want to be an exporter themselves, to places like China,” he said.
Olson says the deal should dramatically boost trade between Alberta and India, which right now amounts to just over $100-million a year.
