Common cold or the flu? Check the F.A.C.T.S.

Flu season is well underway across North America, with at least 35 U.S. states reporting the illness is now widespread.

In Alberta, the province has closed its flu clinics and is holding back what’s left of the shot for emergencies like flu outbreaks in hospitals.

In Saskatchewan, vaccinations continued over the weekend, only for children under five and pregnant women.

If you’re concerned your cough and runny nose might be something more serious a health group in the U.S. recommends, using the mnemonic device F.A.C.T.S.

The National Foundation for Infections Diseases says it’s likely the flu if you have fever, aches, chills, tiredness and a sudden onset of symptoms.
