High wind causes problems in Calgary

A couple workers are recovering in hospital after a wall at a job site collapsed on top of them early Monday.
Carol Henke with the fire department says it looks like the wind is to blame for the construction accident on 31st Avenue and 5th Street NE around 8:30 a.m.
Henke says that wind can cause some real problems and people need to be aware.
“The high buildings that are under construction are especially prone because the winds tend to increase higher up, so it definitely is a hazard for pedestrians below and the workers on site,” she said.
EMS tell 660News both men are in stable non life-threatening condition.
Police also closed a downtown road because of some building material dangling from the Bank of Montreal building.
The Battalion Chief on scene tells 660News a piece of flashing came loose on the 41st floor of the BMO tower, at the corner of 7th Avenue and 3rd Street SW.
Fire crews found one piece of flashing which had already come off and landed on a lower level as well as three more loose pieces.
The high angle team secured one piece in place and removed two others which could not be secured.
Vehicle and pedestrian traffic on 7th avenue in the area was closed in both directions and rerouted for approximately an hour for public safety.
No injuries were reported and The City of Calgary’s Safety Response Unit from Development and Building Approvals will incident to investigate.
