Canada Olympic skeleton athletes get push from SAIT

A couple of Canadian skeleton athletes who will be vying for gold medals during the Olympic Games in Sochi next month, have a Calgary connection.
The sleds used by Eric Nielson and John Fairbairn on the track in Russia were designed at SAIT Polytechnic.
Alex Zahavich, tells 660News students at the school have had a hand in working on the high-tech sleds for the past few years.
He said it has been a very rewarding and successful endeavour.
“The big thing for us in that we’re involved in the training of students now that will get into the sports, wellness and recreation equipment design and fabrication, a burgeoning little industry here in Canada and Calgary in particular,” said Zahavich.
The sleds will sport a SAIT logo, which TV cameras would be able to catch at the start and finish of the race.
