Speed was factor in deadly crash west of Calgary

A police officer says a vehicle that clipped a car west of Calgary in 2012 killing a 10 year old girl, was traveling around 150 kilometres an hour.

Testifying in court Tuesday, Constable Ken Reed says it’s believed the vehicle braked seconds before impact, but was going so fast it couldn’t stop in time.

Eleasha Wesley, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, died after being thrown from the vehicle after the car she war riding in was knocked into a ditch.

21-year-old Fergus Hunter has pleaded not guilty to several charges including hit and run causing death.

The trial continues Wednesday.
