WWII wreckage found on Vancouver Island was from training exercise

A seventy year old mystery has been solved.

Officials have determined the remains of a second world war bomber found on Vancouver Island are from a plane that took off on a training exercise in 1942.

The Department of National Defence says the plane disappeared on October 30, 1942 after taking off from what is now the Victoria International Airport.

The Post reports, four men were killed in the crash including RCAF Airman Sgt. William Baird from Brooks, Alberta.

The other three victims were British RAF volunteer reserve pilots.
