US won’t be rushed into Keystone decision

Despite increased pressure from Canada, the U.S. government says it won’t be rushed into making a decision on the long-delayed Keystone XL pipeline.
U.S. secretary of state, John Kerry, said there is a process that must be followed and will be followed.
Foreign affairs minister, John Baird, said he and Kerry will meet again Friday afternoon to discuss the Alberta based pipeline.
Baird spent three days in Washington, pushing for a decision because he said the industry can’t be left in limbo.
“We hope the final state department report is out in short order and that the administration will be in a position to make a positive decision,” said Baird.
“This is a great project for the future economic prosperity of Canada. It’s a great project that will create a lot of jobs here in the United States. It’s a great project which will increase the energy security of our closest friend and ally.”
Kerry said he’d love to give Canada a reply, but the state department needs to finish its latest study on the project, and that has just not happened yet.
Once the study is finished, Kerry said, that is when his work begins.
Baird and Kerry also met their Mexican counterpart in Washington Friday, which marked the 20th anniversary of Nafta.
