Candlelight vigil raises awareness for animal abuse

Over one hundred people have shown their support for two dead animals found in a southeast ally in Willow Park last week.
They attended a candlelight vigil Sunday night at Sue Higgins Park in hopes of raising awareness on the issue of animal abuse.
Tamara Wrigley says she was horrified when she heard about what happened and that’s how she came up with the idea of the vigil and she was really happy with the turn out.
One of those attending was Greg Habstriatt with Vets-to-Go, which has spearheaded a donation drive to issue a reward for anyone with information about who left a cat and dog to die with their muzzles taped shut.
He says, “It’s extraordinary —- before we left tonight to come to the candlelight vigil, we checked and it was at about $45,000, and of course, that’s in addition to the $5,000 we originally pledged. So, basically, the total funds is over $50,000 at this point and it’s growing by the minute.”
Habstriatt adds they will likely cap the reward at some point with the rest of the money going towards initiatives encouraging stiffer penalties for animal abuse offenders.
