Four employees at a waste management facility in the southeast community of Quarry Park were forced to leave Monday morning after they smelled smoke in the building.
Fire spokesperson Carol Henke said crews were called to the building around 5:30am to find a huge amount of smoke.
She said thankfully the facility’s sprinkler system was activated.
“When fire crews went in they found a pile of wood, plastic, and different recyclables was smouldering — it was quite a large pile,” Henke said. “They ventilated the building to clear the air and extinguish the fire.”
Two of the workers who had left the building were assessed by EMS.
Damage to the facility was minor.
